Survey Reveals The Key To Dating

By

When it comes to attracting a mate, looks aren’t everything. That said, they do account for a whole lot. To make themselves more desirable to the opposite sex, men and women spend countless hours at gyms sculpting their physiques; they also spend countless dollars on tanning lotions, beauty products and clothing to help make them look stylish and more attractive. While these strategies may go a long way toward improving a person’s ability to attract romantic partners; a new study suggests that many people can drastically enhance their looks by focusing on their smiles.

Fascinating Statistics

According to a recent survey, teeth are especially important when it comes to attracting potential mates. Conducted by CosmaLite, the survey asked several single people numerous questions related to what they find attractive and unattractive when assessing potential romantic partners. Among other things, the survey revealed the following:

  • When asked what they notice first when dating a new person, respondents answered: smile (62 percent), body type (12.5 percent), eyes (12.5 percent), fashion sense (6.3 percent), and complexion (6.3 percent).
  • When asked which facial characteristics were most important, participants voted for teeth by an overwhelming percentage (87.5 percent).
  • Teeth also scored high when it came to ranking turn-offs. In fact, only bad breath beat out yellow, missing and crooked teeth for undesirability.
  • When asked to rate the importance of attractive, healthy smiles on a scale of 1 to 10, respondents gave an average score of 9.33.

Teeth Make a Huge Difference

It may come as no surprise to learn that teeth can impact how others perceive us; however, this recent survey appears to show that smiles are far more important than many people may have thought. In fact, according to the survey results, almost 60 percent of participants admitted that they’d actually refused dates because they were turned off by a person’s teeth.

According to Spokane cosmetic dentist Dr. Marnie Collins, other studies have yielded similar results, when it comes to showing the value of good teeth.

“Past studies have shown that unattractive teeth can hold people back both socially and professionally,” she said. “Right or wrong, people tend to view people who have bad teeth as less successful and less attractive. Fortunately, thanks to modern dental cosmetic procedures, people are able to get the smiles they’ve always wanted; so they can escape the insecurity and low self-esteem associated with bad teeth.”

Several Options

These days, more and more people are improving their smiles by getting whitening treatments, invisible braces and dental veneers. Made popular by numerous celebrities, porcelain veneers are especially useful for turning yellow, crooked or gapped teeth into flawless-looking smiles that look completely natural. For many single people, this type of investment makes much more sense than expensive gym memberships, cosmetics and designer clothes, especially when you consider the revealing statistics associated with the recent survey from CosmaLite.
